ActionSA Marches with Iphimbo Labasebenzi & Rejects ANC’s Attempt to Undermine Insourcing Process at eThekwini Metro

Today, ActionSA joined forces with security guards and cleaners from different regions of our province to march to Durban City Hall. A Memorandum of Demands was presented to the Department of Health and the eThekwini Metro Council, calling for the swift insourcing of security guards and cleaning staff.

This comes after the Municipality conducted a feasibility study regarding insourcing external cleaning services and security personnel, which they have determined to be non-feasible.

We are deeply disappointed yet not entirely surprised by the ANC-led Municipality’s decision to overturn the insourcing processes voted for in August of last year. Despite the ANC’s initial voting for the motion’s implementation, it has become apparent that the ANC is now seeking to undermine these processes at every turn.

Additionally, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda was quick to say that the process was not feasible long before the report was conducted.

Council had given the Municipality a reasonable timeframe of 3 months to conduct the feasibility study on this matter; however, the Municipality has dragged its feet, extending the process to a total of 6 months.

We will not stand idly by while the ANC attempts to sabotage this crucial initiative. This set back will not mark the end of the journey for us.

We remain committed to our fight for insourcing security and cleaning services at the Municipality.

This is yet another glaring example of why KwaZulu-Natal residents should vote out the ANC, as they have demonstrated their reluctance to prioritise the people’s needs and instead choose to widen the inequality gap.

Furthermore, we firmly reject the potential implementation of the social enterprise model proposed by Mayor Kaunda.

This approach did not align with our intentions when we tabled the motion.

Our stance is clear: We advocate for the Municipality’s insourcing of these essential services and view the proposal of a social enterprise model as nothing short of an insult to our objectives.

As the motion’s authors, we demand transparency from the City Manager.

We call on the feasibility study’s findings to be made available to us to dispel any doubts about the validity and thoroughness of this investigation.

ActionSA is not prepared to let these processes go unimplemented because of self-serving leaders who do not prioritise the well-being of security guards and cleaners.
