ActionSA Relieved that the Body Burnt During Thabo Bester Escape Has Been Positively Identified
Patricia Kopane
ActionSA Free State Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA is relieved, for the Mpholo Family, that the body burnt in cell 35 in the commission of Thabo Bester’s escape has been positively identified as that of Katlego Junior Mpholo from Ipopeng in Bloemfontein.
Katlego has been missing since March 2022 and his body was incinerated in May 2022. While we are horrified at the lengths taken to affect Bester’s escape, we are nevertheless pleased that the Mpholo Family can now find some peace and lay their loved one to rest.
Reports suggest that there was no smoke inhalation, which posits that Mr Mpholo was deceased before being burnt. The exact cause of death is still unknown.
What is clear is that his family deserves to know the truth, the Free State Department of Health should account for how his body ended up at G4S, and G4S should also account for how Kaltego’s body ended up in their possession. There are more questions than answers at this point, and this matter undoubtedly needs further investigation. With each passing day, it looks more and more likely that state officials were instrumental in this heinous crime to free Bester.
ActionSA extends its most heartfelt condolences to the Mpholo Family, this is undoubtedly a difficult time for them. We pray that God gives them the strength to deal with this tragedy.
ActionSA Free State Provincial Chairperson, Patricia Kopane, will today visit the family and pay her respects to the family.
