In a Senate meeting held on 4th of September 2022, ActionSA Senate resolved to terminate the membership of Albert Kiviet.
Mr Kiviet who served as an ActionSA PR councillor in the City of Johannesburg did not attend the 7th ordinary council meeting on the 31st of August 2022 where the motion of no confidence into Council Speaker was entertained.
His absence violated the ActionSA constitution and the caucus rules. While his absence did not have any material impact on the outcome of Council, his continued refusal to provide reasons for his absence from the meeting have made his continued participation in caucus untenable as we have been forced to assume that he absconded from Council for nefarious reasons.
On the 2nd of September 2022 Mr Kiviet was sent a letter requiring him to furnish reasons why his membership should not be terminated. He elected not to furnish the party with reasons why his membership should not be terminated.
We were left with no choice but to believe he might be one of the councillors whose abstention from Council was as a result of inducements by forces looking to disrupt the work of this multiparty coalition government.
ActionSA expects high level of ethical conduct from its public representatives, and we will not think twice about dealing decisively with corruption and the disruption of the good work being done by our multiparty coalitions.
ActionSA remains steadfastly committed to making the coalition governments work in the interests of the millions of South Africans who no longer want to be governed by the ANC. The City of Johannesburg is no different.
