ActionSA to Lay Criminal Charges Against ANC for Theft and Vandalism of Posters

On the 31 December 2022, ActionSA was shocked to learn that ANC leaders in ward 10, were seen driving around Moletjie with ANC-branded bakkies removing ActionSA posters from poles in ward 10. Upon confrontation by concerned community members, they vehemently refused to put the posters back up and threatened them with violence.

Following these allegations, we conducted an in loco inspection to assess the extent of the damage and we discovered that 40% of our posters indeed had been taken down and some defaced. The ANC’s gross intolerance towards a vibrant and functioning democracy is increasingly revealing its ugly head in these last days leading up to the by-election on 25 January 2023.

It is worth noting that while the poles are decorated with yellow, red and green posters, only ActionSA posters were taken down. This is a clear indication that our presence in this short space of time has caused an unnerving shift in the political landscape which had been previously dominated by the EFF and ANC. This makes us even more resolute to offer the people of ward 10 in Moletjie a viable alternative.

The ANC has, over the years, undoubtedly, turned into a criminal syndicate that masquerades as a beacon of democracy. The values it espouses have lost all meaning while its members do whatever it takes to remain in power- including the theft of other parties’ assests. This behaviour that undermines democratic processes and denies the constitutional rights of all people to participate in free and fair elections will soon reach its end.

Let the ANC heed this warning, we will not take this lying down. We have written to the IEC to formally lay a complaint against the ANC, and we will be taking the matter further.

Tomorrow, Friday 6 January 2023, the Provincial Chairperson, Sello Lediga, alongside the Councillor Candidate whose face bears the defaced and stolen posters in ward 10, John Hlongwane, will be opening a criminal case against the ANC at the Seshego Police Station.

We will not rest in our pursuit of this matter until we see a commitment by all parties towards free and fair elections, for the sake of ward 10 and all South Africans who have historically been denied the fullness of democracy.
