ActionSA to Report Missing Millions for Building of Schoemansdal Sports Facility to the Hawks
Thoko Mashiane
ActionSA Mpumalanga Provincial Chairperson
Millions seem to have disappeared in the budget of Ehlanzeni District Municipality allocated to build a sports facility at Schoemansdal in Mpumalanga.
ActionSA wrote to the Public Protector in 2022 requesting an investigation on the matter, the response from the Public Protector was that they only investigate cases less than two years old. As such we will be referring the matter to the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI)- The Hawks for investigation.
This comes after the ActionSA team in the Enhlanzeni Region went to go see for itself the abandoned facility that was never completed as part of our public engagement campaign to criss-cross the country to speak to South Africans about the most pressing issues facing the nation – such as education, crime and corruption, Eskom, infrastructure and the Economy – and find solutions on how to address them.
The sports facility was never built, only a grader was used for the clearing of the land, change rooms and toilets were built and now they are in a dire state of decay.
The Ehlanzeni Municipality has made this “investment” in the rural village in support of sport activities in the area so that our youth can busy themselves with constructive sporting and recreational activities and be steered away from a life of crime and drugs. However, it is clear that this municipality is preoccupied with looting rather than building amenities that would benefit this community and its surrounds.
South Africa’s challenges can be solved, but solutions require political will from ethical leaders who will serve the interests of all South Africans.
We know that the ANC does not have this political will, and ActionSA is ready to step in once the ANC is removed from power in 2024.
