ActionSA Tshwane Regional Chairperson Conducts an inspection at Skierlik in Pienaarspoort
Oupa Mathibela
ActionSA Tshwane Regional Chairperson
Yesterday, 15 September 2022, ActionSA Tshwane Regional Chairperson, Mr Oupa Mathibela, accompanied by the MMC for Housing and Human Settlement, Cllr Abel Tau, conducted a site inspection at Skierlik Informal Settlement in Pieneaarspoort following an invitation from our Branch Chairperson, Thembinkosi Magagula.
Upon arrival they were confronted by a horrifying, waterlocked and unhabitable area due to an apparent road construction taking place nearby. According to the community members, the contractor who is constructing the road is responsible to creating a man-made dam from excavating the area far sand and thereby leaving the area literally and figuratively in deep water.
The City has received a litany of complaints from communities where construction sites are often left with gaping trenches that resulted in the loss of lives. In mitigating this possible eventuality MMC Tau has undertaken to approach the contractor with a view to ensuring that excavating for construction sand does not leave the community of Skierlik in Pienaarspoort in such difficult living conditions.
Further to this MMC Tau will through the Planning Division in his Department, ensure that Shack Marking is conducted for the purpose of relocating the affected members of the community to a nearby identified site.
Regional Chairperson has committed to following up with MMC Abel Tau to ascertain that the undertaking made are fulfilled and also to entrench an overarching policy of ActionSA which is to restore dignity and security of tenure to our communities.
