ActionSA Urges Higher Education Minister to Rid the Fort Hare of the Rot that Threatens its Iconic Legacy

ActionSA is gravely disturbed by the news of arson and vandalism at the University of Fort Hare at the hands of a group of students.

There can never be any valid justification for the destruction of property and equipment, especially at institutions of higher learning when it is for the common benefit of the entire student body.

Universities are places where future generations of leaders are groomed for this important role in society and if our future leaders are this reckless, we have a monumental problem on our hands. ActionSA condemns all forms of violent and destructive behaviour and protests and, as such, will never be part of such behaviour.

The insinuation that the motivation behind this incident could be political cannot be discounted. This incident comes in the wake of serious allegations of corruption, tragic assassinations and failed assassination attempts and recent damning revelations of degree fraud that benefitted the ANC elite in the province most notably; Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane.

ActionSA calls on the Minister of Higher Education to put aside his political allegiance and fulfil his responsibilities and intervene in the affairs of the University of Fort Hare to restore order and rid it of the rot that threatens to erase its iconic legacy.
