ActionSA Urges NPA to Dot Its I’s and Cross Its T’s to Ensure Swift Prosecution in Corrupt R255 Million Asbestos Tender Case

ActionSA calls on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to ensure thorough and meticulous handling of the R255 million asbestos tender fraud and corruption case, following the brief court appearance of Ace Magashule’s former PA and co-accused in the matter, Moroadi Cholota.

Our call for the NPA to dot its I’s and cross its T’s follows last week’s decision by the Free State High Court to strike the R280 million Estina Dairy case off the roll, with Judge Celeste Reinders citing delays attributed to the prosecution as unreasonable, making it impossible for the case to proceed under the circumstances.

ActionSA has become increasingly concerned about the NPA’s performance, particularly in light of the Estina Dairy case, where delays since 2014 have culminated in the case now being struck off the roll a decade later, leaving justice a distant hope.

To avoid similar embarrassment, it is incumbent upon the NPA to ensure their case is airtight, allowing the full force of the law to be exerted on those accused in this case, which by all accounts represents a glaring case study of the brazen corruption that has ravaged the Free State and South Africa as a whole.

ActionSA will continue to monitor developments in this case and will ensure that we hold the NPA accountable for its mandate to deliver justice and punishment for the treasonous assault on our democracy by a corrupt syndicate of politicians, officials, and unscrupulous businesspeople.
