ActionSA Visited Petrol Bombed Gonyane Primary School in Bloemfontein

Today, 11 January 2023, the ActionSA visited the petrol bombed Gonyane Primary School. This was a heinous criminal act.

We welcome the swift response by the Department of Education (DBE) in ensuring that the stationery was replaced on time to ensure effective teaching and learning.

Burning of schools undermines the right to basic education for thousands of children who are negatively affected by these acts of arson. This also has a negative impact on the right of children to realise their right to basic education.

We commend the community for working together with SAPS to ensure speedy arrest of the five suspects, which are alleged to be foreign nationals.

ActionSA reiterates illegal immigration is placing unsustainable strain on South Africa’s already limited public resources.

The provincial breakdown of unsentenced nationals in detention are as follows; Gauteng leads with 602, followed by the Free State at 444 and Limpopo at 341. This is from a Parliamentary Reply.

Streamlined and legitimate immigration processes, improved border security, and principled foreign policy can have a significant positive impact on South Africa’s immigration crisis that should not be affecting our schooling.
