ActionSA Welcomes Court Appearance of Former Acting Head of Finance in the North-West as Step in the Right Direction
Kgosi Kwena Mangope
ActionSA North-West Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA welcomes the appearance in court of former acting head of finance in the North West Province, Mr Geo Paul who’s accused of corruption pertaining to a tender amounting to R15 million.
Paul appeared in court and stands accused of two counts of contravention of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
It is now common cause for officials to contravene the PFMA by illegally approving requests for deviation from competitive bidding processes and expand the scope of services required to favour comrades.
The fact that corruption and cronyism, which lie at the heart of the ANC’s political leadership, have permeated all levels of government is a setback for all of us who are working hard to fix our country.
We commend the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI/ “The Hawks”) for acting swiftly in this case and believe that the war against fraud and corruption can be rooted out of our government institutions.
However, it must be noted that it is only through effective consequence management that our government will successfully win the war against the cancer that is corruption.
Mr. Paul’s appearance is a step in the right direction in restoring the trust of ordinary South Africans in our institutions of governance and the Rule of Law.
ActionSA will be following this case in court to ensure full accountability.
