ActionSA Welcomes Former Joburg MMC Reuben Masango

ActionSA is pleased to welcome into our ranks, Reuben Masango, an exceptional South African who served as the Member for the Mayoral Committee for Development Planning in the Joburg administration I led.

An experienced attorney, with a background in municipal law & enforcements, labour, debt collection, pension fund as well as RAF Claims, the former MMC brings much-needed skills, adding to our talent pool as we head into the various multi-party governments and prepare for our 2024 national and provincial elections campaign.

Masango very capably played a leading role in the realisation and execution of the Joburg Inner City Rejuvenation project, a job-intensive and investment-attracting capital project which resulted in plans for 14 500 affordable accommodations, 21 000 construction sector jobs, and R32 billion in investment. This project was a runaway success and constituted a key part of our 2021 campaign and we look forward to seeing it revived and executed across the municipalities in which we are in government.

Masango also began the process of reviewing the City’s Spatial Planning and Land Use framework, a process which was intended to undo the harm of Apartheid Spatial Planning, which placed residents far away from centres of economic opportunity. This process was designed to reverse that and further allow home and landowners more latitude to exploit the latent income-generating or capital raising opportunities in their properties.

I indicated over the weekend, upon my announcement of Kgosi Kwena Mangope’s appointment as ActionSA’s Provincial Chairperson in the North West, that more and more exceptional leaders in South Africa are joining our ranks and, over the coming months.

Confidence in ActionSA’s ability to lead and provide a suitable alternative to the ANC is growing, and so is our talent pool. Masango’s joining is a demonstration of that and I will be making more such announcements over the coming weeks and months.
