ActionSA Welcomes Reduction in Crime, Calls for More Preventative Measures and Stricter Punishments

ActionSA Gauteng welcomes the notable reduction in crime in Gauteng, as reported by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant Tommy Mthombeni. The 6% decrease in overall crime incidents and significant declines in murder, attempted murder, and assault-related oftenses are encouraging.

However, there are huge concerns about the increase in rape and sexual assaults cases, in a province still battling with Gender-Based Violence, as well as economic crimes, where our law enforcement agencies have battled to bring the perpetrators to book.

Whilst we urge SAPS to intensify its efforts to address these areas and commend the community policing forums, private security, and stakeholders for their vital role in crime apprehension; we also call on government to intensity preventative measures against criminal activities and to ensure that those found committing crimes face the full wrath of the law.
