ActionSA Welcomes the Completion of Ekurhuleni’s General Valuation Roll

ActionSA welcomes the successful submission of the general valuation roll for 2025-2029. The general valuation roll deals with the valuation of residents properties every 5 years, which determines the amount of rates and taxes are due to the municipality. In the past, ActionSA has lamented its poor implementation which resulted in a huge amount of dissatisfaction from residents whose properties were over-valued.

The successful submission of the valuation roll, with minimal disputes lodged from residents will assist to stabilise the City’s finances, which came under massive pressure last year under the poor management of the now fired EFF MMC for Finance, Cllr Dunga.

The much-needed funds from a well-run valuation roll will help the City deliver services, increase business confidence and fast track the retaking of hijacked buildings.

The focus of the City’s efforts must be in ensuring that our residents find the valuations processes to be more responsive and efficient than it has been in the past. Part of this includes having the City’s online information resources and capabilities to improve residents’ access to assistance and information.

Further to this, the capacitation of customer care centres must be addressed to deal with the increase of residents seeking assistance with their objections.

Since the beginning of our term, we committed to ensure that the City set of non-negotiable values, which included being a caring and responsive City.

We urge the City, and especially the MMC for Finance Cllr Dlabathi to utilise this completed valuation roll to place more pressure on owners who have absconded from their responsibility to maintain and pay for their dilapidated buildings which continue to be hijacked.

As a constructive opposition in Council, ActionSA understands the frustration of residents and business owners in the City who for over five years have been burdened with incomplete and slow progress on property valuations. We will this continue to ensure that this newly approved Valuation Roll is fully communicated to all stakeholders.
