ActionSA welcomes the news that our policy on an Universal Basic Income Stimulus (UBIS) has been featured at the top of the list of South African political parties in a report compiled by the Universal Basic Income Coalition (UBIC).
The comprehensive and well-researched report of the UBIC provides trust in the validity, clarity, and dependability of their scorecard. The scorecard thoroughly analysed the plans and timelines of each party and the suitability of the proposed amount to meet people’s fundamental needs.
Being ranked higher than all other South African political parties in the Universal Basic Income Coalition (UBIC)’s Election Scorecard, reaffirms our strong commitment to eradicating chronic poverty and empowering the marginalized.
Our proposed Universal Basic Income Stimulus model is one that will Introduce a three-year transfer of monthly cash payments to all eligible South Africans, calculated at the food poverty line in year one, the lower-bound poverty line in year two, and the upper-bound poverty line in year three.
All adult South Africans earning below the SARS income tax threshold and all children eligible for the Child Support Grant will be automatically registered to receive the UBIS.
Instead of replacing grants, the UBIS will act as an extra source of income stimulation, enabling underprivileged South Africans to take part in the economy. This will promote economic growth and employment opportunities through the economic multiplier effect.
ActionSA’s commitment to social justice and the empowerment of vulnerable South Africans who remain disadvantaged by the current government, is unwavering. We are glad that UBIC acknowledges and upholds our dedication to empowering our people, and we take great pride in our policies in this regard. We look forward to the release of the complete report on May 15th.
