ActionSA Writes to DoE MEC Calling for Urgent Intervention at Ngadumbili Primary School in Nongoma

ActionSA has written to KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Mr. Sipho Hlomuka, urgently requesting intervention at Ngadumbili Primary School in Nongoma, where learners have been unjustly deprived of their education due to parents closing the school gates in protest.

Following discussions with a member of the School Governing Body (SGB), it has come to light that the current principal at the school was appointed without proper interview processes and without the involvement of the SGB, which violates the lawful procedures for such appointments.

Additionally, disturbing allegations have surfaced that the principal left his previous post amid accusations of physical abuse and embezzlement of school funds.

It is completely unacceptable that, 30 years into our democracy, learners are being hindered from accessing their basic right to education due to avoidable administrative failures.

Such a situation should never have arisen in the first place, and ActionSA finds it deeply concerning that improper processes have led to these catastrophic consequences for the children of Ngadumbili Primary School.

We call on MEC Hlomuka to take immediate action to investigate the unlawful appointment of the principal and ensure that proper steps are followed in appointing a leader who meets the needs and expectations of both the school and the SGB.

We will continue to advocate for accountability and the restoration of normalcy at the school so that learners can return to their studies without further delay.
