ActionSA Writes to Dr JS Moroka Municipality Over Alleged EPWP Political Interference
Press Statement by Joseph Mampuru
ActionSA Mpumalanga Disabilities Forum Chairperson
ActionSA has formally written to the Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, requesting an urgent investigation into allegations of political interference in the renewal of Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) contracts.
The letter calls on the Municipal Manager to clarify the criteria used to determine contract renewals, identify who authorised changes to beneficiary lists and establish whether political candidates or structures influenced decisions affecting workers.
ActionSA has also requested clarity on whether participation in political campaigning was linked to contract renewals and whether an internal investigation will be instituted.
We have further called on the municipality to preserve all relevant records, including beneficiary lists, renewal forms, contracts and approval records, to ensure that the allegations can be properly investigated.
Public employment opportunities must be administered fairly and transparently, without political interference. Residents must not be made to feel that their access to work depends on participating in political activities.
ActionSA expects the municipality to provide a written response and clear answers to the affected workers. We will continue pursuing this matter until accountability and transparency are secured.
