ActionSA Writes to eThekwini City Manager Seeking Answers Pertaining to Durban Metro Police Leading MK Motorcade
Zwakele Mncwango
ActionSA KwaZulu-Natal Premier Candidate
ActionSA has written to the eThekwini Metro Municipality City Manager, Mr Musa Mbhele, to seek answers pertaining to why was the Durban Metro Police Services leading the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) motorcade that recently took place within the City of Durban.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the eThekwini Municipality has adopted the tendency of using Municipal assets and coffers to fund political party activities, as was seen when the Municipality signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Durban International Convention Centre to cough up over R5 million in taxpayer funds to pay for the ANC Women’s League elective conference.
while there have been reports that have linked the eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda to have allegedly used Municipal assets to fund the MK, the visibility of the Durban Metro Police leading the motorcade coveys a wealth of information.
In our letter to Mr Mbhele, we have requested that he furnishes us with information relating to the visibility of the Durban Metro at the motorcade, and reveal:
What was the rationale behind the Durban Metro Police leading the political motorcade?
In which capacity was the Durban Metro Police leading the motorcade?
Who gave the green light to the Metro Police to lead the motorcade?
While we anticipate that the City Manager might deny knowledge of this, which is an ever-growing trend amongst the ANC-led Municipality, nevertheless, we will press for answers.
To the people of KwaZulu-Natal, this demonstrates that the MK has begun using and abusing power as well as municipal resources well before getting elected, validating that the MK operates within the ANC
