ActionSA has written to City of Johannesburg District Commander, Major-General Max Masha, to deploy K9 units to all police stations in Soweto to tackle the scourge of crimes in the community.
As the Constituency Chairperson for Soweto D1 which represents Jabulani, Zola, Moletsane, Tladi, Green Village, Emndeni, Protea Glen, Chiawelo, Phiri, Mapela, Molapo, Rockville, Protea North, Slovoville, Dlamini, Kliptown and Klipspruit West. I recently learnt of how customers and residents from the Jabulani Food Lovers Market were forced to lie on the floor over the weekend as criminals stole money from tills – the second incident in the Jabulani Mall in the past month.
This is just one of many signs of how the rule of law has broken down in this community, and therefore drastic action has to be taken by police to arrest the soaring crime rates.
This act of criminality is a clear indication that SAPS is dysfunctional from the very top and criminals are aware of this, thus with no shame they can execute crime with impunity.
We have long advocated for the restoration of the rule of law in our communities, which is why we will be marching to Police Minister Bheki Cele in Tshwane tomorrow to demand that police stations across the country, including in Soweto, be improved.
ActionSA will continue to monitor policing in Soweto to ensure that urgent action is taken to turn around the situation, and where necessary we will not hesitate to take additional steps.
