ActionSA’s Intervention Successful in Preventing No-fee School Parents Unduly Paying for Books
Thoko Mashiane
ActionSA Mpumalanga Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA’s intervention was successful in preventing parents from paying for books in 25 no-fee paying public schools in Nkomazi area (Khulangane and Malelane Circuits) in Mpumalanga.
The Actioners in Nkomazi held a meeting with the Circuit Manager, Mr. Shekwa, of Malelane and Khulangwane to inform him to withdraw the circular that was sent to parents, and they requested the manager to close the circuits until the matter is resolved.
Victory for the parents and students, because after the closure of the circuits, a new circular was distributed to all schools in Malelane and Nkomazi that reads “you are requested to adhere to CIRCULAR NO.1 based on concern over scholastic stationary. You are instructed to utilize departmentally allocated stationary for 2020, no parent/learner to buy extra stationary”.
ActionSA will make sure that such occurrence and abuse of power by the department does not happen again, and it should make sure that there are enough books for all the learners.
We request members of the communities to all no-fee paying schools to resist instructions to buy stationary and the bullying of the ANC government whose duty it is to provide these materials.
The Mpumalanga department of education is taking South African for a ride. We will not tolerate the abuse of power and undermining the intelligent of South African.
ActionSA will continue fight for the poor and the marginalized and the ANC government will be punished by voters in the 2024 general elections with its arrogance and taking people for granted.
