ActionSA has moved a motion to rename the eThekwini Metro Municipality after the late AmaZulu Nation Prime Minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, which will be tabled at the next council meeting.
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi was not only a prominent figure in South African politics but also a revered leader within the AmaZulu community. His lifelong dedication to the fight against apartheid, his advocacy for peace and reconciliation, and his unwavering commitment to the betterment of his people are qualities that deserve recognition and honour.
By renaming the eThekwini Metro Municipality after Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, we aim to pay tribute to his remarkable legacy and ensure that his contributions to our nation are remembered and celebrated for generations to come. This gesture also serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and preserving the diverse cultural heritage of our country.
Our motion was meant to have been ventilated at April’s council meeting, which was ultimately cancelled without a valid reason, which we suspect could have been a tactic by the ANC to obstruct our motion. Nevertheless, they cannot avoid us forever.
ActionSA is committed to seeing this motion through.
On the 11th of December 2023, we had the privilege of meeting with Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, the eldest son of Prince Mangosuthu, who gave us his blessing in our endeavour to rename the Municipality in honour of his father.
We will be reaching out to other political parties to garner their support. We are confident that together, we can make this symbolic gesture a reality.
