ANC-affiliated MMC accused of kidnapping and other charges should be fired with immediate effect

ActionSA notes with deep concern the news of a Joburg MMC and bodyguard who were arrested over the weekend at Roodepoort Police Station. A case was opened by a 16-year-old victim, on charges of kidnapping, pointing a firearm, and common assault. The complainant withdrew the case, most likely under duress.

We have it on good authority that the accused is MMC for Economic Development, Nomoya Mnisi. ActionSA strongly condemns these acts of criminality. This raises serious questions about the breakdown of the rule of law, where politically connected individuals abuse their power to undermine the rights and dignity of ordinary South Africans.

This pattern is consistent with ANC so-called leaders across all spheres of government. At the highest echelons, President Cyril Ramaphosa faces charges of fraud and perjury for concealing undeclared foreign currency at his Phala Phala farm.

ActionSA demands that Mayor Dada Morero institutes disciplinary action to remove this criminal MMC from the Council’s Executive. There is no question that this criminal behaviour has placed the city in a negative light. Such conduct falls far below the standards of someone who bears the responsibility of public office.

The days of the ANC undermining the rule of law without consequences are over. ActionSA will continue to follow developments surrounding this matter closely, to send a clear message that residents should elect leaders who will serve ethically and in their public interest.
