Concerning that Ramaphosa Asserts SA has a lot to Learn from Zimbabwe, Despite the Economic & Human Rights Meltdown

ActionSA finds it deeply concerning that President Cyril Ramaphosa believes South Africa has a lot to learn from neighbouring Zimbabwe, despite the country’s dismal track record on human rights and overall economic meltdown.

Furthermore, we believe that the ANC’s policy of quiet diplomacy has failed which led to the influx of Zimbabwean refugees seeking jobs in South Africa. Ramaphosa’s remarks, therefore, highlight that the ruling party’s foreign policy does not prioritise the South African people, but apartheid era-alliances.

ActionSA maintains that the ANC’s policy of quiet diplomacy should be abandoned forthwith, and accountability should be demanded from Zimbabwe to ensure that the rights of Zimbabweans are protected.

At ActionSA’s recent policy conference, delegates voted that South Africa’s foreign policy should be steeped in the best interests of the South African people, helping to create jobs for our people and improving the lives of all living in the country.

Condoning the behaviour of our Zimbabwean counterparts simply does not achieve this, and instead increases the burden the South African people have to carry while continuing to licence the atrocities that pervade Zimbabwe.

ActionSA will continue to advocate for the best interests of South Africa and lobby the government to demand accountability from those who have abused the rights of their people.
