Cosatu & ANC planned march to Lily Mine shocked the Victims’ families without consultation
Thoko Mashiane
ActionSA Mpumalanga Provincial Chairperson
The families of the Lily Mine Victims – Solomon Nrirende, Pretty Nkambule and Yvonne Mnisi – are shocked by the ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, and COSATU General Secretary, Solly Phetoe’s, planned visit to Lily Mine without prior consultation with the families.
The victims’ families are angry by the planned march to Lily Mine on Workers’ Day because according to them, ANC and COSATU are part of the problem as they are government of the day. Since the incident they have distanced themselves from retrieving the bodies. The question is why take an interest now?
The families held the prayer session today to mark 4 years since they started camping outside the mine waiting for justice for their loved ones.
ActionSA will continue to support the former miners and families because we value the lives and dignity of every South Africans, and will not stand by while our citizens are abused and disregarded by their own government.
ActionSA has trust that the rule of law will prevail and the finalisation of these matters will bring the families one step closer towards finding justice when the SCA sits on 10 May 2023.
