DA Caught Blue-Handed Using Theewaterskloof Municipal Vehicle for Campaign Activities

ActionSA will file an official complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and write to the Theewaterskloof Municipality following photographic and videographic evidence of a municipal vehicle being used to transport and deliver food to DA members in Grabow (See here, here and here) who were putting up DA posters along the main road.

Despite enjoying their share of a staggering R1.2 billion allocated to established political parties, the DA seems to find it appropriate to also tap into and misappropriate municipal resources to campaign in an election meant to be free and fair.

In 2023, Theewaterskloof Municipality was embroiled in a scandal involving the misuse of municipal vehicles by political party officials. This latest incident is another indication of the concerning trend in municipalities across the Western Cape and South Africa, where political parties fail to differentiate between the party and the ‘state’, leading to the exploitation of resources meant for municipal operations rather than political party activities.

ActionSA has also observed a concerning trend where our posters are being systematically removed as quickly as they are put up. Additionally, it’s noted that their removal coincides with the appearance of other posters. Our activists have found posters cut from street poles and dumped in refuse bins, particularly in areas like Eerste River.

ActionSA is committed to leading a campaign that adheres to the code of conduct set out by the IEC to ensure free and fair elections, and calls on the DA and other establishment political parties to refrain from resorting to unethical and criminal rule-breaking in a last-ditch effort to cling to power.
