DA to File Duplicate Charges on Case Already Under Investigation Through ActionSA’s Criminal Complaint Against Minister Tolashe
Press Statement by Dereleen James MP
ActionSA Member of Parliament
More than two weeks after ActionSA filed criminal charges against Minister Sisi Tolashe, with the docket already under investigation by the Hawks, the DA now appears ready to waste police resources and time by laying charges on a matter that is already being probed.
Following the exposé arising from a series of questions submitted by ActionSA, alongside the investigative work of the Daily Maverick, the criminal case against Tolashe is before the Hawks and progressing accordingly, with further work underway to expand the probe. This is further supported by our complaints to the Public Protector and Parliament’s Ethics Committee.
If the DA or any other party is genuinely concerned about the merits, rather than clawing for relevance, they are welcome to engage us and we will supply the contact details of the relevant Hawks officials so that any supplementary information they may have can be submitted directly into an investigation that is already underway, rather than duplicating a process for the sake of political optics.
ActionSA is actively pursuing further leads and working to expose additional Ministers where there is credible information of involvement in this unfolding scandal, which is increasingly pointing to a pattern of self-service at the highest levels in ANC ancillary structures. ActionSA has already called for the dismissal of Minister Tolashe and will do the same for others implicated in this “cars for certain cadres” scheme.
The alternative is for the President to sit on his hands, watching his lying comrades being arrested and brought before court for what is rapidly emerging as a coordinated effort to act outside the law by those entrusted to uphold it.
