EFF Thuggery Will not Stop ActionSA’s Motion Against Puppet Mayor Ngodwana
Siyanda Makhubo
ActionSA City of Ekurhuleni Caucus Leader
On Thursday, 29 February 2024, the EFF unsurprisingly resorted to violence to ensure the collapse of council to prevent our motion of no confidence against their puppet mayor, Cllr Sivuyile Nogdwana, from being ventilated and voted on.
The EFF have bought themselves a little over a week and have only hardened our resolve and solidified the numbers in council against Ngodwana.
We must condone not only the EFF but also the Speaker of Council, Cllr Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, who, in her personal capacity, assisted her fellow fighters to collapse council by refusing to order the EFF to leave when the vast majority of council were seated peacefully.
The Speaker now has a meeting with party leaders at 11:00, where we will formally submit a petition from councillors obligating her to reconvene council. The council therefore must reconvene within 7 days in an extraordinary sitting where our motion will be tabled once again.
ActionSA insists that the City’s finances need to be stabilised, the institutional review rapidly implemented, and quality services delivered to our residents as soon as possible. This will require a stable government based on competence as opposed to political expedience.
To this end, ActionSA is willing to work with parties that share our values and will support proposals that will lead to stability in the City until the 2026 elections. ActionSA has always been clear that the ANC and EFF are responsible for the crisis the City finds itself in, and therefore they cannot be a part of the solution.
