eMalahleni Mayor Must be Sanctioned for Insensitive Comments

The Mayor of eMalahleni, Connie Nkalintshana, was attacked by eMalahleni residents for allegedly saying the community do not need electricity as they do not own refrigerators and that they don’t bath.

While ActionSA does not condone violence, we are extremely concerned that the Mayor, whose duty it is to provide services, has demonstrated such contempt for the people she is elected to serve. The ANC must sanction her forthwith.

The community protesters have been blocking traffic on the N4 for the past three days. They are angry over the unreliable power supply and outages.

Scores of residents were stationed near the N4 highway, blocking different points around the residence and demanding that Nkalitshana address them. Residents of KwaGuqa and surrounding areas have been without electricity for nearly a week.

This is not just an isolated event, these tendencies permeate all spheres of government and clearly shows the forlorn state of the relationship between the citizenry and the ANC government.

ActionSA sympathizes with the disgruntled citizens who are fed up with poor governance and incompetence within the ranks of our government and the arrogant and out-of-touch officials.
