Enyobeni One-year Later: Toxicology Result Should be Released Publicly to Ensure Accountability
Athol Trollip
ActionSA Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA is concerned that a year since the Enyobeni tragedy occurred, where 21 young people mysteriously died, the Eastern Cape Provincial Government has refused to release the toxicology report to the families of the victims or the general public.
While it is deeply concerning that the under-drinking aged teenagers were in the Enyobeni Tavern, ActionSA believes that their untimely deaths were not the result of liquor consumption. Something more sinister was at play.
It, therefore, remains deeply suspicious why the Eastern Cape Government, who already received the toxicology report in August 2022, have dragged their feet and not released the toxicology report to both the family and the general public to scrutinize.
ActionSA remains committed to ensuring that the families of the Enyobeni tragedy victims receive the justice they deserve and will maintain pressure on the provincial government to release the report.
Since the report has not been released publicly, further criminal action cannot take place as both the police and prosecutors have not managed to gain access to it. How can these families trust that proper processes in their best interest were followed if the Eastern Cape government have not acted transparently?
ActionSA, a political party committed to Social Justice, will not rest until the families of the victims receive the answers and justice they deserve. We will ensure individuals are held accountable for the actions that led to the teenagers’ untimely death.
