Free State Leadership Purge Exposes ANC’s Governance Collapse
Press Statement by Patricia Kopane
ActionSA Free State Chairperson
ActionSA notes the dramatic removal of mayors and speakers across several Free State municipalities, including Mafube, Ngwathe, Letsemeng, Masilonyana, Tswelopele, and Nketoana. This follows years of governance collapse, repeated audit disclaimers, and deepening service delivery failures.
The ANC’s decision to reshuffle leadership comes after communities have endured crumbling infrastructure, persistent water shortages, failing electricity supply, and reckless financial mismanagement. Instead of implementing meaningful reforms, the ruling party has recycled failed leaders in a desperate attempt to quell rising public anger.
These removals represent an admission of failure, but they do not address the root causes of systemic corruption and maladministration that have plagued Free State municipalities for years.
ActionSA demands:
1. Full forensic investigations into maladministration and financial mismanagement in the affected municipalities.
2. Consequence management for politicians and officials implicated in wrongdoing.
3. Urgent stabilisation measures to restore good governance, achieve clean audits, and deliver reliable services to residents.
The people of the Free State have been abandoned by a government more concerned with protecting its own than serving communities. ActionSA reaffirms its commitment to fighting for ethical, accountable leadership that places the needs of residents first.
