ActionSA condemns comments made by ANC City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environmental and Infrastructure Services (EISD), Jack Sekwaila, who sought to blame the state of the city’s streets on the homeless when it is the ANC which is directly responsible for the city’s decay.
In an interview with News24, Sekwaila blamed the city’s homeless for raiding bins to find cans, bottles, and other materials that they could sell which exacerbated the dirt problem in the city, adding that the homeless vandalise public infrastructure to sell scrap metal when it is the City’s responsibility to ensure the cleanliness of the city and the enforcement of its by-laws.
ActionSA is firm in our belief that homeless individuals are not to blame for the state of Johannesburg, but that it is a result of years of poor ANC policies, corruption and misrule.
Homeless individuals are forced to scavage for materials they can sell to survive because in the 29 years the ANC has been in government, the ANC have been unable to create adequate jobs or improve the lives of our people.
Instead, unemployment, poverty and hunger have been on the rise with millions more now requiring state aid simply to feed their families – with thousands of people forced out of their homes and onto the streets.
ActionSA, a party which values social justice and ethical leaders, will ensure that MMC Jack Sekwaila and the ANC do not get away with blaming the city’s current problems on the homeless, but instead keep them accountable for the state of Johannesburg.
It is only by removing the ANC and replacing their policies that the City of Johannesburg, Gauteng and South Africa can be fixed, and ActionSA will work tirelessly to achieve that goal.
