This morning, Wednesday 25 August 2021, our legal team Mkhabela Huntley Attorneys (MHA), will together with the bereaved families of Siyabonga Mabila (7), and Lawrence Tshwenu (4) meet with Advocate TJB Bokaba, SC as part of the investigation into the drowning of the two boys at an unattended quarry in March this year.
Since engaging ActionSA, the families have been in constant consultation with MHA in preparation of their case against the City of Tshwane for their culpability in the deaths of the two boys. Furthermore, the families have been in receipt of psychosocial services to help them cope with the tragic loss of their young children.
Similarly, in the case of the families of the three young boys, Samuel Maphosa, 10, Kutlwano Mkhwanazi, 9, and Tshepo Machete, 10, who also drowned in an unattended storm water trench in Hammanskraal in November 2020, the families are also in receipt of psychosocial assistance.
MHA have been in contact with the City of Tshwane’s Dikeledi Selowa and Pheko Letlonkane to obtain information as to the independent investigators appointed by the City to look into the Hammanskraal drownings, but to no avail.
To this end, MHA are preparing the necessary documentation to pursue a PAIA application to obtain service level agreements between the City of Tshwane and the contractors appointed to construct the storm water trench.
ActionSA remains committed to getting justice for all the affected families who have lost their children in these tragic circumstances due to the negligence of contractors appointed by the City of Tshwane as well as its own lack of oversight on these projects.
