Madibeng Meltdown Forces ANC To Recall Mayor – Too Little, Too Late?

ActionSA notes reports on the ANC’s decision to remove Madibeng Mayor Douglas Maimane. While this is an internal party matter, it does not address the ongoing collapse of governance and service delivery in the Madibeng Local Municipality.

A forensic report commissioned by North West MEC for Cooperative Governance, Saliva Molapisi, reveals serious irregularities, including unlawful appointments, irregular procurement, duplicated payments, and wasteful expenditure. Those implicated include municipal manager Quiet Kgatla and officials linked to former mayor Douglas Maimane.

These failures continue to harm residents, with communities such as Maboloka, Madidi, and Jericho left without water and electricity, while service delivery protests escalate. The crisis is further compounded by financial mismanagement. Earlier this year, the municipality owed the City of Tshwane over R20 million, resulting in electricity cuts to municipal offices.

Despite repeated interventions under Section 139(1)(b) of the Constitution, Madibeng remains plagued by weak accountability and corruption.

ActionSA calls for the immediate removal of all officials implicated in the forensic report and the urgent referral of its findings to law enforcement. This is consistent with ActionSA’s Zero Tolerance Corruption Bill, which seeks to ensure swift consequences for corruption and end impunity in the public service.

ActionSA will continue to exercise oversight and pursue all available avenues to ensure accountability. Residents deserve a government that works.
