“Mini-Cyclone” – ActionSA Extends Assistance to Those Affected by Natural Calamity

After witnessing what was described to be a ‘mini cyclone’ wreak havoc within the eThekwini Metro injuring and displacing some residents within the Inanda, Phoenix and other surrounding areas, ActionSA conducted an oversight visit to the affected areas to assess the damage firsthand.
Regrettably, residents of eThekwini have not been spared from this natural disaster that occurred without warning.
However, through observation and conversations with those affected, one has to appreciate the fact that flooding in some areas was caused by a lack of stormwater drain maintenance that has been badly clogged over time, failing to allow rainwater to pass through.
Had the leaders of eThekwini taken preventative measures immediately after April 2022 floods, the damage from this cyclone could’ve been mitigated and we believe that some families who experienced flooding would have been spared from rainwater entering their houses, causing damage and loss to property.
After assessing the situation in Inanda and Phoenix, ActionSA will not stand on the sidelines and watch those affected remain without necessary assistance yet again.
Therefore, we have assembled a team of ActionSA councillors and leaders in eThekwini to closely monitor the situation and prepare to offer aid to those in need of various supplies and support during this difficult time.
We encourage our members and those of the community to extend a helping hand to those affected.
