MMC for Housing and Human Settlement Attends the Initial Tenant Viewing of Marabastad Townlands
Cllr Abel Tau
ActionSA MMC for Housing and Human Settlement
On Tuesday, 4 October 2022, I welcomed 154 of 691 approved would-be tenants of Marabastad Townlands to view units ahead of preparations for the year-end occupations. One of ActionSA manifesto promise is that we will is that we will increase access to dignified housing and human settlement, to reverse the trend of declining housing standard.
The Marabastad Townlands is a multi-million-rand social housing project which, when completed will house 1200 (one thousand two hundred) mixed units with the initial 154 units earmarked for occupation by December 2022.
Under the management of the Housing Company Tshwane (HCT), the initial batch of prospective and qualifying tenants received an invitation to visit Townlands in order to view the units that will soon become their homes. These tenants are considered as the missing middle, who do not qualify for government housing subsidy or a home loan.
One of the overarching undertones of our manifesto is the betterment of the quality of life of our people and ensuring that they work and play in within the same areas. This was the sentiment echoed by some of the approved tenants that I managed to engage. These are young professionals who are at the foundation of their lives and careers, who expressed excitement at the proximity to their workplaces and the amenities that the Townlands Social Housing Project presents.
ActionSA continues to support and work vigorously within our coalition government to deliver dignified and affordable social housing to qualifying residents.
