ActionSA has written to President Ramaphosa, requesting that he furnish us with the reasons for the lack of action on NPA Director Advocate Shamila Batohi’s request, made in August last year, to suspend Johannesburg Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke, who is at the centre of several botched prosecutions.

Since February this year, Gauteng has had over 210 cases of suspected food poisoning with 16 resulting in fatalities of children, the vast majority of which were under 10 years of age. ActionSA, therefore, welcomes the promise made by Premier Panyaza Lesufi to deploy food inspectors to monitor townships’ spaza shops which have been the alleged contributor to this scourge. And we do so with extreme caution.

ActionSA Rand West Youth Forum Regional Executive Committee conducted an oversight visit to assess the overall conditions of various parks in Mohlakeng, Randfontein. Disappointingly, but unsurprisingly, the state of the local parks throughout Mohlakeng is appalling with no visible plans to restore them. Parks that were intended to serve as recreational spaces for outdoor entertainment, community health and wellness, as well as provide an environment for social cohesion amongst young people and fellow community members have now been turned into dumping sites and crime zones.

ActionSA is deeply concerned about the escalating misuse of Gauteng’s public healthcare system by foreign nationals who receive Oncology treatment without paying their medical costs. This practice not only places additional strain on already overburdened healthcare facilities, but it also diverts resources away from South Africans who require urgent care.

ActionSA Gauteng Youth Forum condemns the action of the Department of Social Development of not paying the Youth Brigades’ October salaries. We view this as an unacceptable exploitation of the desperate youth who have put their trust in this program, that has caused severe inconvenience to many young people employed under it.
