Ngobeni to be Caucus Leader in Gauteng Provincial Legislature
Michael Beaumont
ActionSA National Chairperson
ActionSA communicates the outcome that its Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni, will serve as its Caucus Leader in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Ngobeni brings a wealth of experience to the role having served in local government since 2016 and as a Member of the Mayoral Committee in finance, transport and development planning portfolios. Ngobeni will be joined by John Moodey who served as the former leader of the opposition in the Provincial Legislature, and Emma More who has served as a member of the National Assembly.
ActionSA has full confidence in this team led by Ngobeni in the context of a provincial government in which the opposition appears to be moving towards a deal to cogovern with the very same Panyaza Lesufi that they spent much of the campaign promising to unseat. It will be interesting how such opposition parties now approach the issue of the amaPanyaza, Nasi Ispani, eTolls debt, the fumigation of schools or the mismanagement of Ekurhuleni and Joburg under the ANC and EFF.
This team of ActionSA leaders have been guided by ActionSA President Mashaba to fight for the residents of Gauteng in terms of the pressing issues that they face in local municipalities, with broken public healthcare and education systems. Of great importance will be the fight against corruption with an opposition now in government with the ANC it is going to fall on ActionSA and other unconflicted opposition parties to pursue cases of corruption.
In accordance with our national position adopted, ActionSA will be a constructive opposition – supporting proposals that serve the residents and rejecting those that do not.
ActionSA expresses its confidence in Funzi Ngobeni and the team that he will lead, and we wish them well with their important work in fighting for the residents of Gauteng.
