PA Cllr Juwairiya Kaldine Must Step Aside Pending Finalisation of Her Criminal Cases
Cllr Marcel Coutriers
ActionSA Joburg Caucus Leader
ActionSA has written to the City of Johannesburg Speaker requesting an Ethics Committee referral regarding numerous criminal cases involving PA Councillor Juwairiya Kaldine, ranging from kidnapping to assault, as well as the alleged cover-up of the arrest of her bodyguard yesterday for possession of a stolen vehicle and violations of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act.
This represents a clear contradiction of the ethical standards required of the office she occupies, not only as a councillor but as a committee chairperson and reflects a pattern of association with serious criminal allegations that has compromised the integrity of the City of Johannesburg and brought the Council into disrepute.
We have written to Speaker Arnolds to refer this matter to the Ethics Committee, where it can be fairly and thoroughly ventilated to ensure that the standards of conduct expected of every councillor are upheld.
Cllr Kaldine is known for disregarding the rule of law and for bullying behaviour when addressing community issues. We are further informed of an alleged ongoing effort to interfere in the matter involving the stolen vehicle, where suspects were released on station bail of R1 000 following pressure from a senior official. This comes after Cllr Kaldine and other PA councillors reportedly descended on the Eldorado Park Police Station to influence the police’s handling of the case involving her alleged bodyguard.
ActionSA believes that Council must act to protect its integrity, while the police must probe the apparent interference in the arrest and the questionable bail granted to the suspects following a suspected call from a senior SAPS official.
