Political Appointee in EFF’s Speaker’s Office Yet to be Suspended After Arrest for Fraud in Ekurhuleni

Today, in a question asked by ActionSA’s Cllr Andrew Harris in council, it was confirmed that an EFF political appointee, working for the Speaker of Council in Ekurhuleni has indeed been arrested for fraud and is currently out on bail.
In a follow-up question, Cllr Harris asked whether this employee has been suspended, which the MMC responded that it appears she has not.
It is deeply disturbing to hear that the EFF has not removed their political appointment even after she was arrested. Worse still, is Ekurhuleni’s HR department which has not suspended the official after these very allegations and arrest.
It is clear that the EFF has no qualms in hiring criminals in their political offices. As a constructive opposition that believes firmly in the rule of law, we urge the MMC of Corporate and Shared Services, Cllr Ngodwana to ensure that this employee is in the very least suspended pending her court case against her.
Following these important questions and revelations from council, ActionSA will be writing to Cllr Ngodwana urging him to fast track her suspension.
