Positive Progress as Provincial Police Commissioner Agrees to Delegate a Special Investigating Team to Phoenix Secondary School After Arson Attack
Zwakele Mncwango
ActionSA KwaZulu-Natal Premier Candidate
On behalf of the parents and students of Phoenix, ActionSA is dismayed by the setback caused by a fire at the school believed to be as a result of petrol bombs on the eve of the commencement of the academic year which will have devastating affects for the learners and the community alike.
Following an oversight visit at Phoenix Secondary School, which fell victim to a suspected arson attack, I, together with fellow councillors, promptly engaged with the KZN Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
An urgent request was made by ActionSA for the timeous deployment of a special investigating team to Phoenix Secondary School (case number: 415/01/24) to which Lt-General Mkhwanazi committed to putting together a task team to swiftly attend to the matter without any further delay.
We reiterate our earnest plea to the Department of Education to provide a temporary solution for the learners and educators of Phoenix High School, as to not further hamper the affected learners’ academic future.
It is apparent that crime syndicates operate within our society without the fear of being held accountable for their actions. Under our leadership, acts of terrorism will not go unpunished, which is why we will establish specialised units to deal with those who violate the Constitutional Rights of South Africans, more especially the Right to Education.
