R38 million Prefab Warrants Lifestyle Audits of Vryburg Officials

ActionSA is outraged that a whooping R38 million was spent on a so-called call centre operating out of a prefabricated structure at the struggling Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality in Vryburg.

ActionSA will, therefore, move that the North West MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Nono Maloyi, conduct lifestyle audits of all senior officials of this municipality.

We will also beseech the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI/ “The Hawks”) to investigate this wild abuse of public funds by municipal officials.

A full-scale investigation must be conducted urgently to determine:

  • The circumstances that occasioned the awarding of the tender;
  • Who ordered the construction of the “Call Centre”;
  • Which company was awarded the tender;
  • Who are the directors of the company to which the tender was awarded; and
  • How a further R1.4 million is now being spent monthly on operational costs.

Section 217(1) of the Constitution demands that public institutions comply with the principles of fairness, equity, transparency, competitiveness, and cost-effectiveness, when procuring contract for goods or services.

We should all be concerned by the fact that corruption and cronyism, which lies at the heart of the ANC’s political leadership, has now permeated into all spheres and tiers of government.

ActionSA has, at its recent policy conference, declared corruption as Public Enemy Number One and we will make every effort to rid our country of all forms of corrupt activities at all levels of government.

We will continue to demand full accountability from those entrusted with public office and public goods.
