RDP Irregularities and Unresolved Beneficiary Claims in Emakhazeni

Note to Editors: These remarks were delivered by ActionSA Mpumalanga Provincial Chairperson, Thoko Mashiane MPL, in the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature

Honourable Speaker,

ActionSA is deeply concerned by the growing concerns surrounding the allocation and occupation of RDP houses in Emakhazeni.

During our recent community engagement, residents raised troubling questions about a housing system that should provide dignity and security to qualifying families.

Some beneficiaries reportedly hold title deeds to their RDP houses but are not occupying those properties. Other residents say they were called to sign for their houses, only to leave without receiving them. Meanwhile, some residents who applied for housing have waited without answers or progress on their applications.

Honourable Speaker, these are serious concerns that demand clear answers from the Department of Human Settlements and the relevant municipality.

How can residents be expected to trust the housing allocation process when some beneficiaries remain without clarity about their homes, while questions persist about who occupies properties intended for qualifying families?

ActionSA calls for an urgent investigation into these cases, verification of beneficiary records and title deeds, and clear communication with residents about the status of their applications.

Those who qualify for housing deserve transparency, fairness and accountability. Any allegations of irregular allocation or occupation must be properly investigated, and those responsible for wrongdoing must be held accountable.

Honourable Speaker, RDP housing is not a political favour. It is about restoring dignity and providing families with a place to call home.

The people of Emakhazeni deserve answers, and ActionSA will continue to demand accountability until their concerns are addressed.

I thank you.
