A recent visit to Springfontein typified just how bad things have become in our towns across the country.
This town has been used by the ANC as a cash cow for their cabal. This is by the cynical creation of bogus community projects for the benefit of their cronies to enrich themselves.
As soon as they pocket money from the projects, they soon abandon the project and there have been no consequences which has become the story of the South African public service.
Springfontein, in particular, is littered with incomplete projects that ought to be for the benefit of the people, but these incomplete projects are now havens for crime. Consequently, this is where people are killed, raped and young people do drugs as is often the case with abandoned and derelict projects.
Specifically, ActionSA visit to Springfontein we observed that:
- There is a Sports Ground that was budgeted for R9.2m with R7.5m that has already been used, except for two dilapidated buildings that are now a haven for crime.
- Right next to the Sports Ground there is a community hall that was built but was never used, the building is now dilapidated.
- In Greenfield Housing Project, houses were built for people, 60% of the houses are complete but have not been allocated to people, and the houses are vandalized and getting dilapidated.
- The town as it is leaves so much to be desired, there is only one ATM that seldom has cash, and no retail shops, not even SASSA offices.
- 90% of the population depend on social grants for their livelihood, for them to get their money they have to travel to Trompsburg for R120 return, this means that 40% of their money is spent only on travelling. They still have to travel to Trompsburg to buy basic necessities because on payday they queue until 16:30 by that time retail shops are closing.
All this tells a tale of forgotten people, people that are not in the people that are left to fend for themselves.
ActionSA will write to the Department of Social Development and request them to avail SASSA mobile offices to Springfontein on days of disbursement. Due to the large sums of money wasted on these incomplete projects, we will also write to the Public Protector and request a full investigation.
People deserve the government they vote for, if Springfontein residents vote for the ANC again, service delivery will remain a pipedream for them. They will continue living in abject poverty, but should they put ActionSA in power, we will create an enabling environment that will attract businesses into their town.
It is up to them to save themselves from the callous ANC, a vote for ActionSA is a vote for a better life.
