Over 100 ActionSA members joined the Free World Initiative #WalkWithoutFear Night March in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion on Wednesday, 09 August 2023 from 18:00 – 19:00. The 4,6 km night walk was to raise awareness of the challenges women, children, LGBTQIA+ communities, PLHIV and PWD face in their daily lives, especially in terms of safety and security.
ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni, and his wife joined in the march too, and although there was an attempt to hijack the event from other political parties, the event ended peacefully. “We must be proud of ourselves,” said Funzi Ngobeni, “knowing we have done our task. May ActionSA be known as a party that cares about women, as a party that is anti-crime and anti-rape.”
Women and men from Mogale City, Lesedi, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg travelled to Tshwane to join the march.
Today, we are celebrating women all over the world. It is a special day because every life has been touched by a woman in one way or another. Women are the backbone of our society and the gel that keeps us together.
And yet women continue to face many challenges, in their homes, in their families, at school, and in the workplace. Despite many advances in legislation and awareness campaigns around women and their needs, many women continue to face gender-based discrimination and violence. Many do not believe they have a voice, and many have had their voices silenced.
We want to take time off today to appreciate women and to send a message of acceptance, love and respect to all the women in our lives. We appreciate you, we honour you, we love you. Let us continue to speak up for women, and ensure they are respected.
Happy Women’s Day!
