Western Mega Irregularities and Quality Control Concerns Continue

ActionSA notes with concern on-going irregularities and quality control issues since 16 suspected illegal immigrants were taken into custody at Western Mega on Wednesday, 4 September 2024.
Reported irregularities include night-time operations, often referred to as “ghost shifts”, continue unabated, raising concerns about transparency, accountability and worker safety. Eyewitness accounts suggest that illegal immigrants are still employed on site, despite last week’s raid.
Quality control issues around Western Mega include the use of substandard materials and inadequate inspection protocols, as per reports received.
ActionSA urges Western Mega to address these issues promptly and prioritise ethical business practices. In addition, ActionSA is calling for the immediate cessation of irregular working hours and night-time operations; full cooperation with authorities to resolve on-going illegal immigration issues; a comprehensive review and strengthening of quality control measures; and NHRBC investigation into Western Mega’s business conduct and adherence to regulations.
We request that Western Mega provide all stakeholders with a detailed plan to rectify quality control issues, proof of compliance with immigration and labour laws, and the assurance of worker safety and well-being.
ActionSA will continue to advocate for good governance practices and public accountability.
