ActionSA Calls for Immediate NYDA Reform after Luthuli House Meeting Confirms ANC’s Capture of the Entity

ActionSA condemns the further politicisation of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), an entity which has long been a source of patronage for the ANC Youth League (ANCYL). Yesterday’s meeting between NYDA Board Chairperson, Asanda Luwaca, CEO, Waseem Carrim, and ANCYL officials at Luthuli House serves as irrefutable confirmation of the dubious relationship between the ANC and the NYDA.

ActionSA views this latest instance of political capture of the NYDA by the ANC as yet another glaring example of the pervasive cadre deployment that has contributed to the complete breakdown of nearly all government entities. Shamefully, the very institution tasked with addressing the concerns of our youth has not been spared.

We are reminded that when the board appointments were made in 2021, concerns were raised about ANC interference in the selection process. Regrettably, we are now furnished with undeniable evidence of an entity entrapped by the corrupt tentacles of the ANC and its groomed Youth League.

As we grapple with the myriad challenges affecting our youth, with the ANC at the centre of hollowing out opportunities, it is nothing short of insulting to the millions of unemployed young people witnessing ANC cadres at the Agency earning seven-figure salaries while they languish at home without work or access to development opportunities.

ActionSA calls for the immediate resignation of the Board Chairperson and demands the urgent depoliticisation of the NYDA. South Africa’s youth deserve an agency that operates in their best interests, free from political manipulation.
