ActionSA Condemns Alleged Misuse of Municipal Resources for ANC Political Activities in Dr JS Moroka

ActionSA strongly condemns the alleged misuse of municipal resources by the ANC in Ward 16 of Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, where municipal property is reportedly being used to advance the ruling party’s political campaign.

It is alleged that a municipal bakkie was used to transport asphalt which was then delivered to ANC Branch Executive Committee (BEC) members in Ward 16 for the purpose of patching potholes. If confirmed, this conduct represents a blatant abuse of public resources for partisan political gain.

Municipal assets are funded by taxpayers and are meant to serve all residents equally, not to be used as tools for political campaigning. The Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) Act 56 of 2003 clearly outlines the responsible and lawful use of municipal resources. Nowhere does the legislation permit political parties to use municipal property to advance their own political interests.

The normalisation of such practices undermines democratic fairness and erodes public trust in municipal institutions. Service delivery must never be weaponised for political mileage.

ActionSA therefore calls for an urgent investigation into these allegations to determine whether municipal resources were improperly used for ANC activities in the Dr JS Moroka sub-region. Should these allegations be confirmed, those responsible must be held accountable in accordance with the law.

Residents deserve a municipality that prioritises lawful governance, transparency, and equitable service delivery, not one that allows public resources to be repurposed for party-political benefit.

ActionSA will continue to monitor this matter closely and will not hesitate to pursue all available avenues to ensure accountability and protect public resources.
