ActionSA congratulates the Mpumalanga Matric Class of 2025 on completing one of the most demanding milestones of their academic journey. These learners persevered under challenging circumstances, and their resilience deserves recognition.
Mpumalanga achieved an impressive 86.55% provincial pass rate, contributing to South Africa’s historic national pass rate of 88% in 2025 – the highest in the country’s history.
Behind every result are learners who worked tirelessly, often in under-resourced schools, to achieve commendable outcomes. Many attained strong marks that reflect discipline, potential, and determination.
Mpumalanga has particular reason to be proud of its high achievers. Siyanda Nkuna from Inkomazi High School was recognised as a national top achiever and outstanding performer in mathematics, and Angie Ntuli from Phumzile Secondary School was also honoured among the top 40 learners nationally for her excellence.
In addition, Luyanda Ndhlozi of Elangwane Secondary School in Volksrust emerged as Mpumalanga’s top learner, ranking among the top 40 performers nationwide.
These exceptional achievements demonstrate that excellence exists in our public education system and that, when given support and opportunity, Mpumalanga learners can compete with the very best in South Africa.
At the same time, the results highlight the deep inequalities that continue to define our education system. Too many learners are still being constrained by overcrowded classrooms, inadequate infrastructure, and uneven teaching support. A pass rate statistic alone cannot capture the resilience, effort, and personal triumphs represented in these results.
ActionSA believes that government must move beyond announcements and implement targeted interventions in underperforming schools, invest meaningfully in teacher development, and ensure that every learner has access to the resources they need to succeed.
To the Class of 2025: your journey does not end here. Whether you passed with distinction, achieved a solid pass, or fell short of your goals, your effort matters. You have shown courage in the face of adversity, and South Africa needs that spirit. ActionSA wishes you strength and success in the next chapter of your lives.
