ActionSA Exposes Decade-Long Water Crisis in Nkomazi’s Langloop Community

ActionSA today conducted an oversight visit to Langloop Ward 25, Tembisa Section, under the Nkomazi Local Municipality, where residents have been without access to water for over a decade. Despite the presence of a ward councillor residing within the same community, families continue to live without this most basic human necessity.

During the visit, community members expressed frustration and desperation over the ongoing water crisis, which they say has persisted since as far back as 2015. Many households rely on unsafe and inconsistent water sources, forcing residents, including children and the elderly, to travel long distances daily just to fetch water.

It is unacceptable that in 2025, residents in Nkomazi are still denied access to clean and reliable water, especially when the government has repeatedly promised interventions that never materialise. The situation in Langloop reflects not only a failure of service delivery but a total collapse of local accountability.

The fact that a sitting ward councillor lives among the very residents suffering from this crisis, yet no sustainable solution has been implemented, highlights the deep disconnect between political representatives and the people they are meant to serve.

ActionSA calls on the Nkomazi Local Municipality to immediately prioritise the restoration of water supply to Langloop Ward 25 and to provide a detailed report on why this community has been neglected for so long. The municipality must also clarify how it plans to ensure that all residents in Nkomazi have access to clean and consistent water, a constitutional right that cannot be delayed any longer.

ActionSA will continue to conduct oversight visits across Mpumalanga to expose the failures of local governance and to advocate for communities that have been left behind. Access to water is not a privilege, it is a basic right, and we will not rest until it is realised for every resident of this province.
