ActionSA Extends Condolences to Family of Victims in Westbury Shooting – Calls on Police to Act Swiftly

ActionSA extends its deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives in the recent Westbury shooting and our prayers are with those still fighting for their lives in hospital.
The ongoing wave of violence and shootings linked to gangsterism in communities like Westbury is deeply alarming. The fact that children as young as 13 are being exploited as gang runners is unacceptable and demands urgent, coordinated intervention.
ActionSA therefore calls on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to implement a specialised pilot operation in the most affected communities, including Westbury, Eldorado Park, Riverlea and surrounding areas. This operation must include dedicated detectives, specialised courts, forensic and cybercrime expertsto ensure swift investigations and the immediate disruption of criminal networks.
While we acknowledge the efforts of the National Police Leadership who have been on the ground, it remains critical to strengthen local police stations with the necessary resources, leadership, and accountability. ActionSA will seek a comprehensive report on the police response to this tragedy to ensure that justice is served for the victims and that such violence is not repeated.
