ActionSA Notes Departure of Nobuhle Mthembu and Wishes Her Well in Future Endeavours

ActionSA notes the resignation of its former Speaker in the City of Johannesburg, Ms Nobuhle Mthembu.

In political parties, people come and go. In growing political parties, more people join than leave. ActionSA takes comfort in knowing that on the day of Ms Mthembu’s resignation, over 2 000 South Africans became first-time members of ActionSA.

ActionSA has no interest in a public exchange with Ms Mthembu’s and notes her resignation letter as a clear manoeuvre towards another political party.

Ms Mthembu cites a sudden misalignment in values with ActionSA, which coincidentally only emerged after her tenure as Speaker of Johannesburg ended.

During the extensive engagements between party leadership and Ms Mthembu prior to the motion of no confidence that resulted in her removal as Speaker, it became clear that she held the expectation that ActionSA should support the continuation of Mayor Dada Morero’s indefensible administration in order to preserve her position as Speaker. This would have required ActionSA to act contrary to the concerns and expectations of Johannesburg residents in order to protect an individual, something the party would and could never conceivably do.

ActionSA wishes Ms Mthembu well in her future political endeavours and trusts that she will find alignment with an organisation whose values reflect her priorities.
